In light of a new study about the rise in deadly truck accidents comes news of a fatal San Diego hit and run pedestrian accident involving a box truck.

Police say 23-year-old Benjamin Ramirez of Escondido was walking along Bear Valley Parkway on his way home from work Monday, when he was struck and killed by the truck. The “U-Haul” style box truck allegedly slowed, but did not stop for Ramirez.

Ramirez was taken to Palomar Hospital but later died. The accident happened about a mile away from where Ramirez lived with his parents.

Oceanside CHP are still looking for the truck. They are asking anyone in the San Diego area to be on the look out for a white box truck with front-end damage that may make a loud rattling sound.
